What's new ?
- PinsToFile. PinsToFile is a small utility (a nicer word for "quick hack") for Microsoft MapPoint that iterates over all pushpins in a set you can specify by name ("My Pushpins" by default), and writes their names and coordinates to an ASCII file. That's all - no comments export, there's no error handling, if e.g. MapPoint is not running or the pushpin set does not exist, it will display a cryptic error and exit. (See README.TXT in the ZIP file for more info)
- MeMap V1.03.
If you own a Garmin eMap GPS receiver, you can use this freeware program
to provide it with an "owner screen" (like the HP 200LX has)
that displays your contact information at power-on in case the unit gets
lost or stolen. V1.03 has two small
improvements and seems to work with the new eTrex receivers.
- XWP V1.00. XWP is is simple
little utility for Garmin GPS receivers (tested on an eMap) that can
convert waypoint symbols. It was originally written to enable TOPO USA
users to change the "car" symbol this software creates by
default when downloading waypoints, into something else, without the
tedious work of changing every single waypoint on the GPS.
Old news:
It was about time that I updated this page.
Thanks to everybody who notified me about it. The broken links
have been fixed or removed, and a general reorg is underway.
- Frames. The major browsers support them
now, so I added a navigation frame to
the left. Use it to quickly jump from one topic to the
other, without the need to use the back button of your
browser. A no-frames view should
be available as well - if you have problems using it, let
me know.
- FCL availability, new
way to register VR and FCL.
Project Gutenberg donations have been very hard to track,
and CompuServe has discontinued their SWREG registration
program. I decided to make both VR as well as FCL
available for download here, along with a new way to
register them. Read

- Association with Amazon.com. I'm a long-time
fan (and customer) of this Internet bookstore, and am
happy to announce that they accepted me into their "associates"
program. Here
are the details.
If you live in Germany and are looking for a fast and
inexpensive way to get (especially English language)
books, search no longer - find them at Amazon.de.
